McNeil Bros
913 and 925 Govan Road
I had a McNeil Bros frame once but didn't realise what it was. The transfers had long since gone along with the clear coat. The maroon paintwork underneath was in fairly good condition but the frame was a bit too small for me.
I eventually swapped it for another bike and it was at this stage that I learned it was a pre-war McNeil Bros. It was a beautifully built frame and very light. If I get my hands on another one, I'll be hanging on to it!
John and Andy McNeil started building frames in the 1930s but went their separate ways after the war. Andy carried on the business and earned a deserved reputation in his own right.
